A Future for Young Adults

In response to the need, Trusted Mentors is expanding our work with young adults aging out of foster care. Indiana ranks second behind Nevada as having the greatest increase (66.2%) in youth entering the foster care system from 2000-2009 (most up to-date data).

According to Connected by 25, in Marion County 70 youth age out of the foster care system each year without having been reunited with their birth families or connected to other permanent families through adoption or guardianship. These young adults face adult decisions with adult consequences without the support of families. Because of this, they have a higher risk of ending up homeless or in prison.

Our mentors work with these young adults to make good decisions, to become good employees and for some, help to be good parents. By avoiding pitfalls, these young adults have a more stable and successful future ahead of them.
